BEHIND THE MACHINE 001 | Harley Davidson Sportster XL1200N

A 2010 Harley-Davidson Sportster Built to Be Ridden

Some bikes are finished projects. Others grow with you.

Margherita belongs firmly in the second category.

She’s a 2010 Harley-Davidson XL1200N Sportster Nightster, bought completely stock in 2025. Since then, every modification has been fitted by hand—not to build something that sits spotless in a garage, but to create a bike made for daily riding, stunt practice, events and everything that happens in between.

This isn’t a show bike. It’s a bike that gets used.

THE BEGINNING

When Margherita arrived, she was bone stock: a solid starting point, but far from the bike she was going to become.

The Sportster has always been a platform that invites change. Strip something away, replace a part, adjust the riding position—and the entire character of the bike begins to shift.

The first changes brought more sound, more attitude and more personality. A Stage 1 setup with a K&N intake and Vance & Hines Shortshots gave the 1200 Evolution engine the presence it deserved.

From there, the direction became clear: build a Sportster that could handle everyday riding while gradually becoming more capable for stunt use.

BUILT, NOT BOUGHT

Every modification on Margherita has been fitted by Mike.

Working on the bike is as much a part of owning it as riding it. Each new part comes with scraped knuckles, lessons learned and another reason to understand the machine better.

The rear suspension was replaced with 14-inch piggyback shocks, raising the bike and improving its stance. A Barnett Extra Plate Clutch was installed to better handle more aggressive riding, while easy-pull two-finger levers made the controls more comfortable and responsive.

The original indicators were replaced with LEDs, and the cockpit was altered with risers to create a more purposeful riding position.

At the rear, stunt sliders add protection. Up front, the crash bar wears Route One skateboard wheels—a functional detail that also gives the bike something completely personal.

The battery cover and headlight mount were custom painted, adding small touches that separate Margherita from every other black Sportster on the road.

Nothing has been added simply to fill space. Every change either improves how the bike works, protects it or makes it feel more like mine.

MADE TO BE USED

Margherita isn’t kept for occasional sunny weekends.

She’s used daily. She goes to events, gets ridden around the city and comes out for stunt practice. That means the build can’t only look right—it has to survive being ridden properly.

The scratches, worn parts and signs of use aren’t imperfections to hide. They’re part of the story.

BROOZ has always been about the people who live motorcycle culture rather than simply observe it. Margherita represents that perfectly: worked on at home, ridden often and constantly evolving.

WHAT COMES NEXT

The bike is nowhere near finished—and it probably never will be.

A chain conversion is one of the next major changes planned, with plenty more modifications to follow as the riding progresses and the purpose of the bike continues to develop.

There isn’t a final version waiting at the end of the build. Margherita will keep changing, one part and one experience at a time.

Some motorcycles are bought, enjoyed and eventually replaced.

This one is staying.

More modifications will come. More things will break. More late nights will be spent working on it. Most importantly, more memories will be made along the way.

Margherita isn’t just the first bike featured here.

She’s the reason this series exists.
